Performance- Although these guys don't waste time interacting with the crowd as much, the music really makes up for it. You can see Matt really get into his guitar solos. He does the unforgivable. I remember watching him play his guitar solo with his guitar behind his head. Their Drummer, Amos, amazes me. When I watch him, it's like he has his own little world going on and his expressions are cute. At the end of their set at Slaughter Que, he broke his drum stick and tossed it into the audience and I got it! DOK seem to not be uniformed they all have their own personality showing on stage, they all look different and they have their own unique expressions and ways of playing their instruments. You can tell they really love and get into music! | Facebook : www.facebook.com/deathofkingsmetal Band Profile: www.reverbnation.com/deathofkings Band Merch: www.deathofkings.bigcartel.com Genre: thrash influence but who cares, it's all metal Band Members: Matt Matson- Scott Price- Amos Rifkin fangirl level (1-10): 10 headbang level (1-10)- 10 review: Intro- Psychologist have came to conclusions that the human mind creates labels/categories for the mind to understand and organize reality better, this is where stereotypes come from, it's natural. In metal, we have our own "stereotypes" or labels with the different types of metal. Usually when a band comes on stage, I can sometimes be able to guess what they might sound like.... you know... corpse paint + leather = black metal. Death of Kings is probably the ONLY band where I had an ego check and screwed up big time. The first -and not the only- time I saw Death of Kings was at Slaughter Que. Matt (the vocalist and lead guitarist) came on stage and I thought "ohhh okay these guys might have some core influences" but then I saw the drummer, and the other members.. and I started feeling confused. I saw Matt's guitar... and that's when I was really confused. I was probably giving them weirded out looks due to all of this confusion I had no idea what to expect..at all. When they started playing I thought "oh my god these people are genius!!" they have a heavy thrash influence, the fangirl struggle is real AND I can't help but to head bang with them, not to mention the major confusion I got. Because of that moment, I gained huge respects for the band and I'm now a Death of Kings fan. The second time I saw them I knew what to expect, I headbanged the whole set and they rocked once again, left the venue still not disappointed, and still a fan! Music- Their music to me has old school influences with a modern twist. They remind me of Iron Maiden how in the song lyrics is a story. When I hear these guys my imagination runs wild, which by the way, is a new and different experience. I kind of get into this "zone" ... NO I was NOT on drugs.. and I get lost head banging into the music it's really fun. I feel like these guys kept the spirit and influences of the legendary bands that we know of and love and added in their own technique on top of it. If they wrote their music with no intentions of doing so well,... then, I have no idea... As you guys might know from my last review, I mentioned how I bring my old farts to shows, and my dad loves these guys. we eventually purchased a CD the second time we saw them and well.. basically, the CD stays in the car ;) . If you are a warm turd (youngling) , and you are thinking "eew..thrash metal" STOP IT!! I think this band will be easy for hard headed younglings who don't get thrash that well. Outro- I love these guys and I do keep up with all of their upcoming shows on my calander on my website as well as my fanpage on facebook. Their last show of the year is actually coming up on October the second so I really hope you can get out there and see them for yourself! they are truly amazing and I had an inspirational experience! Stop by on their facebook page and give them some love.. tell them I sent you <3 also, if you like my review like/comment :) ONE MORE THING: My best friend picked up one of their merch shirts and I'm thinking about borrowing it for a photo shoot. I can potentially get them noticed in a magazine. If getting their name in a magazine doesn't work, if anything I can still get pictures done at a photo shoot. if you think this is a great idea and they deserve it, tell me why you love DOK and I'll give it a shot! STAY HEAVY \M/ |

Intro-
I have decided to review a whole bunch of bands in Atlanta that I have came across just so newbies in the scene have some introduction as well as bands that are just starting out can read from an audience perspective. I know this could be potentially dangerous but I'm not here to judge the bands... this is more like when you get a DVD and you read the back... or you're at a book store and you read the back of the book. It's just an introduction of these bands, why I love them, why I decided to blog about them and so on! Just a few things: I constantly find myself going to shows where I absolutely have no idea who any of the bands are so some of the bands I blog about, I may or may not know them personally. Most of these reviews are coming from experience and following them. I do plan on having a youtube channel so possible interviews or promotional videos are a future possibility ;) AMBR= Atlanta Metal Band Reviews Tips- I am not experienced I am not a professional but from an audience perspective here's a few tips I would tell bands :) 1. high energy on stage means high energy on the audience! I'm not going to go into a scientific lesion on how this works but...it does!! I feel awkward if the band is just standing there. 2. your "guitar/vocals/drummer/bass" face is cute!!! just saying :) 3. I love it when bands interact with the crowd!!!! 4. throwing water/beer/whatever on the audience is *genius* 5. if you make people do a circle pit or wall of death, you're on the same level as Einstein... good job ;) 6. I think it's funny when bands call out certain people in the crowd cause they are doing something funny!! that makes the atmosphere feel like we're a giant family! 7. promote shows get people like me to promote shows get shows out there... small crowds are okay but bigger ones are the best! plus you want your name out there! don't be lazy ;) xoxo Dess |
