If you're a headbanger.. you know exactly what I am talking about: The Aftermath. Spending 4-10 hours (sometimes more) of headbanging is probably my top favorite things to do, but it's the after part that is so dreadful! when asked, "How do you overcome neck pain after headbanging?" just about every typical metal head answers with "Nothing" or something around that! But I decided to look a few things up and educate myself and share it with others who also want to enlighten themselves! After a show that night, if you are not too drunk or wore out to do so, you should start treating right away although the pain hasn't caught up yet. this would be stretching the neck and apply either heat or ice overnight. Heat helps bring nutrient- richen blood to the area to help flow and stimulate healing response. Ice packs will reduce the inflammatory of the area. The next day, it's recommended that you switch from hot to cold every thirty minutes. If you take over the counter medicines, make sure they are anti- inflammatory (Ibuprofen, advil, aleve ) . One individual told me they even put Vicks on it! And if you're a fangirl such as myself, peppermint tea will cure that voice you just lost. I also want to add, before a show, I always eat a banana to get potassium. this helps any body soreness. I also carry band aids and ibuprofen in my pockets because someone around me, or myself always gets hurt and ends up needing those two things!
Founded in August of 2013, Suppressive Fire had a long, hard working year of creating their first EP which was released on August of 2014! From Raleigh North Carolina, Suppressive Fire is ready to bring you a unique sound of blackened Thrash metal with face melting riffs and solos. Suppressive Fire has a unique sound Influenced by bands anywhere from Exodus, Death, High On Fire and Black Sabbath. It energizes any headbanger, mosher or drunk! When listening to the EP, you catch the major influences right away. The guitar work is amazing! I love all of the catchy riffs oh and the solos!! The solos are so beautiful! They come in at just the perfect time with the perfect sound. The vocals are little different and definitely unique! They fit in and complete the band like a cherry on top! My favorite out of the whole EP would have to be "Thy Flesh Consumed". The introduction is slower, then leads you into a face melting riff on the lead into a beautifully written solo, then it speeds up and goes into the song! This song, much like all of their other songs, makes me wish I could just drive over to North Carolina just to see them perform life! Overall, The complete sound is excellent. If a thrash band makes you feel like you need to mosh, and party then they are doing it right! I would love to see what else comes out from Suppressive Fire. definitely make sure you stop by their Facebook and take some time to listen!!
When it comes to bands, I always try to include fans because fans will always be just as important as the music. This band is perfect for anyone who loves to keep it old school but like to add a modern pinch to it! They keep it heavy and not too complex and although they may not be for everyone, I can definitely see fans really get into it! I enjoy watching their live video (shown above)
Shotgun Eulogy is a "newbie" they have been around over a year and they have successfully produced an EP titled, "Hand Of Fate". it took about four half days to finish and was released on July 19th, 2014! Sounds like they didn't want to waste time getting this EP out! I have been given an awesome opportunity to get to know the vocalist, Jay Howell and bassist, Joshua Hamby and they rock! Awesome personalities and I bet the rest of the members are just as sweet! Don't be afraid to hit them up, I am sure they would love to hear from you! so first things first! As soon as the EP began to play, all of my attention shut off from everything and I keyed into the music. The first song is actually a sample of an incident that happened in Georgia. I will not reveal the sample because that's for you to find out! It's creepy as hell! When you get into the EP, you can't help but to notice all of the work put in....and just to know it took four half days blows my mind! Jay talks to me about the lyrics, he describes the songs as different stories. For an example, one of the songs titled "Modern Prometheus" is about the famous Frankenstein or another good one, "Hand of Fate" which talked about the plague. The lyrics were creatively made but what about the actual music? The band is heavily inspired by a decently wide range of different types of metal such as hatebreed and The Black Dahlia Murder. They tend to pull more towards the American metal side, but in the long run each member has their own inspiration and they just come together as a whole. so I would recommend this band to fans who love metal that's simple but heavy. This would be Hatebreed fans, Lamb of God, or anyone really that just wants to enjoy some metal and have a great time!
When reviewing bands, I generally like to attack different age groups because I feel your target audience is important! Let's face it: there are bands out there where generally the fans are a bit younger then there are bands who attract older people. I think this band is a perfect target for younger or older people who are not huge fans of complex pieces of music. I think it's easily to get into, and for those newer metalheads: you don't have to watch the vocalist to see when to bang your head (yeah...we know you di it!). I keep up with Shotgun Eulogy! So be sure to be on the look out when their next show is and try them out! If you see them, I would love some feedback! I have not yet seen them live so if you have, come talk to me about it! And if you are like me and haven't, help the metal scene and come out to one of their shows! Facebook "likes" are great and all but actually coming out to a show is honorable and true support!
When the music starts, all attention is focused on the music. The atmosphere suddenly changes by the creative electronic production and a strong progressive guitar comes in. The mood is set, and the brutal vocals come in and you're officially blown away. That is what I experienced when I listened to "Scriptures Of Reason" by Base Alpha. I couldn't help but to listen to the whole entire album unintentionally- it just happened. I was hypnotized. While I was listening, I could hear so much influence and the different genres combined into the music. I normally don't get into genres that much but I couldn't help but to be so amazed at the amount of techniques I heard in each song. you cant just not notice it! At some point you'll hear black metal, then you'll hear technical, progressive, atmospheric and sometimes a core influence. It's like "How do you describe this to someone?" When I first received the album, I did expect a dominate genre because that's normally how things are ran, but after getting into all of the songs, you can't call them anything but "Base Alpha" . The song "False Pieces" is my favorite out of the whole album. It's one of those songs that make you think but listen at the same time. some parts perfectly demonstrate atmospheric metal then show off how talented their guitarist is! It's definitely my favorite and I enjoyed listening to it three times. ;)Another song I wanted to mention is " The Vatican Assassin". I enjoy this song also because it is a perfect example of that I mean by "you can hear so many influences".
Although, This is just an album review, I also want to add that I hope I can see these guys live and in action! I am a fan already and I would love to see how they are live. They are a newer band to the scene, so I think it would be great! I also would love to review them as a band and help them get out there. I love the direction they are heading in! Keep going, keep rocking, mostly, keep writing music!! \m/
